Licensing Information
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is responsible for
licensing massage therapists throughout the state. It currently charges
a license application fee and a Bi-Annual renewal fee ,
i.e., the renewal cycle is now every other year instead of each year.
There is a charge for the state licensing written examination, which
can be taken locally. The state licensing practical examination
is held in Austin.
There is a written exam, which are a mixture of true/false, multiple choice and
matching questions. In addition, there's a practical exam in
which you'll demonstrate your massage techniques. Relax, your Basic
Program training at TMI assures that you'll be well
prepared for both parts of the examination by the time you graduate. TMI
graduates typically exceed the state average of 80% by 7-10 points, so
if you apply yourself in your studies, you should pass with flying colors!
The DSHS requires that you take qualifying continuing
education training during the two-year renewal cycle to maintain your
license. TMI provides a diverse selection of
CE Courses and Advanced
CE Workshops of varying duration that not only enable
you to meet your continuing education needs but which also increase your
skills, knowledge and marketability.
