Trigger Point Therapy

This 100-hour program is based on the teachings of Dr. Janet Travell and Dr. David Simons. This program includes information presented on theory, perpetuating factors, muscle dysfunction, advanced anatomy and physiology, cryotherapy, and technique. Learn how to utilize corrective actions, deactivation strategies, cryotherapy and advanced stretching techniques to assist clients with pain management.

Topics covered in this course

  • Pathological conditions that indicate or contraindicate trigger point therapy
  • Integrating trigger point therapy with osteopathic or chiropractic care, sports medicine and physical therapy
  • Lifestyle factors related to musculoskeletal dysfunctions
  • Symptoms and referred pain patterns associated with each skeletal muscle
  • Evaluations, compression, joint movements and home exercises

You will learn how to

  • Evaluate problem areas and apply appropriate trigger point therapies to moderate myofascial dysfunction
  • Lengthen each skeletal muscle through appropriate joint movements
  • Plan a trigger point therapy session based on the client's history and goals
  • Provide soft tissue therapy as part of the health care team by taking instructions from physicians and physical therapists
